Nani sending off

Post  TinyHandsOfConcrete on Wed Mar 06, 2013 7:53 pm

didn't expect manchu to progress from the tie with real madrid but i'd be gutted if i were a fan. don't care what roy keane says that was never a sending off - not even convinced it was a yellow

Yellow for high feet dude. Thats about it.

I think even the Real players were a bit shocked by the decision.

Not sure....having watched it a few times, I can see why the ref's sent him off - doubt if Fergie will agree though

that's not even a rule though is it. presumably it was for dangerous play but for it to be a red card there'd have to be some kind of intent.

I've always thought that sort of thing was at the refs discretion.

I can see why he gave the red, if he didn't notice Nani's attention was on the ball and not the man, then it looks a shocking challenge.

To be fair as well, Nani is a cheating, greetin faced wee prick who has been known to get players booked in the past. What goes around comes around.

I'm glad Utd are out though - I have chosen Real to win the CL in my works predictascore.

That is another aspect Floater - Nani was lying on the ground as if there was a sniper in the crowd - doesnae up the sympathy level

I haven't seen it, but I will say this:

The excuse "he was looking at the ball, so it wasn't deliberate" is tosh.
Yer not allowed to go in recklessly, others are entitled to fairly challenge for the ball and you can't expect the pitch to yourself. If you go for the ball in such a way as it can injure another player, it's a red card offence. Contact is superfluous..

Having watched it, red or yellow, either could be justified.
Rio Ferdinand really is an unsavoury character.

Have to agree there Buzz - the clapping in the ref's face was outrageous

Subjective THOC - I thought he was within his rights but, as I say, subjective. Kind of killed the game though which was a shame - I had actually thought Nani was playing really well
